Interactive medals map....

Got sent this link to NY times interactive medal map, shows up to date medal tallys and what more you can look at all the previous olympic totals, nice design and good bit of information design....

Check out 1908 man!, we were seriously whipping some butt in 1908!...

I want one....

Now I love where I live, its got novelty 'creepy' value and near an 'award winning DLR station', not to mention the DLR is the future of travelling, no driver! I mean come on it's got back to the future all over it.....

...but now Im thinking this is where it's at, pre fab houses, awesome!.....

Olympics update...

So Britain had a great weekend at the olympics, fair play.
Some of my highlights from the weekend...

Usain Bolt is the fastest man in the world...by a long way...and he showboats...

..and I fell in love with an american pole vaulter after a tip off from work.

360.....

The first music video ever shot with a 360 degree panoramic lens.
A tripped out journey into the track "My 1st Big Break"....

Cut Chemist - 1st Big Break from eyestorm on Vimeo.

olympia 1....

So its olympics time as I've mentioned before, branding and information design are central to each Olympic experience so it's interesting to see different takes on the logo. Some of the iconic designs seem to have been lost in the last decade or so which is why I quite like the different approach taken by Wolff Olins for London 2012. We'll obviously put on a shite show, and the 100+ year old tube system will weep and crumble to dust, but hey, it will be summer, and andy murray and tom daley might not be dissapointing failures (Ill let Tom off)...

olympia 2....

And the rest....

Alex Trochut....

Had our creative meeting this morning at Dare where we sit down have a chat and get 'inspired'. This week Eduardo continued his look at artists from the offf festival in barcelona This week was Alex Trochut bloody entertaining typographer and illustrator...check it out.

How turd....

A giant inflatable dog turd created by the American artist Paul McCarthy was blown from its moorings at a Swiss museum, bringing down a power line and breaking a window before landing in the grounds of a children's home.

The exhibit, entitled Complex Shit, is the size of a house. It has a safety system that is supposed to deflate it in bad weather, but it did not work on this occasion.

Juri Steiner, the director of the Paul Klee centre, in Berne, told AFP that a sudden gust of wind carried it 200 metres before it fell to the ground, breaking a window of the children's home. The accident happened on July 31, but the details only emerged yesterday.

Steiner said McCarthy had not yet been contacted and the museum was not sure if the piece would be put back on display

this is an ad....?

Meant to put this link up for a while, Nick and Toby at work wrote an article for campaign magazine and to accompany the article created a website thisisanad.com for all to contribute their thoughts to what is advertising. Amongst others I helped design the blog ..it's getting some big numbers visting...

"As we approach our 100th post, we have now had 1,407 visits, from over a 1,000 unique visitors. Generally averaging about 50 visits a day – which is great for a new blog. UK is the main source of traffic, but the US and Canada are also beginning to pick up on it."

Andy Gilmore....

Just stumbled across the work of Andy Gilmore tres bon effort all round....

Grace...

So saw this video at the big chill. New grace jones video, pretty beau.

Created by Nick Hooker in collaboration with rabbit content.

Creative tea - Dip and Rob styleee....

So the first floor of dare has a weekly creative tea session (see Yas below racking up the brews) this week Fab brought us a cracking cheesecake too...it was after this it all went v wrong.....

Dip and Rob invited some old uni friend concrete carrott in too present to us, what they did'nt know and noone expected is that they would bring a big issue seller in with them they found on the street. The normally plesant converstion was overtaken by 'Rich' explaining the dangers of pin and chip and how betamax was going to take over the world.

After some appauling language and maybe the strangest 10 minutes of my life I had to return to my desk to save my soul. Probably my favourite 'Rich' momment was the confession that he had actually invented spongebob squarepants whilst working for nickelodean, they ripped him off apparently, the bastards. He was'nt so bitter he did'nt give us a signed copy of a spongebob sketch though. Even if he did invent it you'd have to go a long way to make that image safe for children to look at.

Make you own mind up...

Oi dip and Rob next time you have a great idea, don't.

(ps: Cheers for the pics, nabbed them from your blog.)

hide!

Maybe the ultimate in forest survival, this outfit and the headphones....life complete.

Wesc headphones....

Oh to have more money in the world...the summer is bleeding me dry but as soon as I got some more money in I'm getting me some of these badboys. Also sheck the site here really nice navigation, and loads more nicely priced headphones.

And I pay my license fee.....

Just read that the new BBC desktop monkey widget for the Olympics (keeps you up to date on the results etc) apparently hasn’t encrypted its database of expletives…
I’m not entirely sure what that means in practice for the widget, but the end result is you apparently get 1399 lines of foul-language and p*rn URLs installed onto your hard-drive.

Heres my least favourites....

Large Hadron Collider nearly ready....

Their explanation...

"The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a 27 kilometer (17 mile) long particle accelerator straddling the border of Switzerland and France, is nearly set to begin its first particle beam tests. The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is preparing for its first small tests in early August, leading to a planned full-track test in September - and the first planned particle collisions before the end of the year. The final step before starting is the chilling of the entire collider to -271.25 C (-456.25 F). Here is a collection of photographs from CERN, showing various stages of completion of the LHC and several of its larger experiments (some over seven stories tall), over the past several years."

My explanation...

"Its expensive, massive and its so powerfull it's going to create a balck hole which consumes us all...but its sooooooo pretty."

More here.

the big chill....

So last weekend myself, Dip and Graves-Morris from dareschool headed to Eastnor Castle in Herefore for the big chill festival...and what fun was had. Loads of old (and new) friends, glorius weather and great music. You know its going to be a great festival when the poster for it is this good...

It was created in partnership between design agency neighbour and photography genius of city-shrinker another image of whose is here:

..really like his work.

So what about the rest of the show?

As ever an eclectic mix at the big chill, alot of bands I can't remember the name of, some awesome comedians and some belting tracks, here's some of my favourites...

Always been a fan of the man and Bill Bailey lived up to his reputation pulling in one of the biggest crowds of the weekend, if you hav'nt seen part man part troll live stand up I suggest you go and treat yourself..

Another suprise treat was the appearance of Adam Buxton (of Adam and Joe fame)in the mixed media tent. In what was supposed to be a celebration of the best new music videos around (until a tech fault put paid to this) instead we were treated to some gems of comedy and great videos by the man himself. Check his site here.

And heres a little sample of what he's about...

Music wise there was a mixed bag but some definite highlights..

I would start elsewhere but have to mention the man first...Sunday belonged to Leonard Cohen, at the age of 73 or something he brought the biggest weekend crowd and did not disappoint. I found it amazing that his voice seems to get better with age unlike other musicians from his generation. I saw Bob Dylan a few years ago and felt a bit let down, the same with Brian Wilson, admittedly they've been ripping it up for decades but it was so refreshing to see and entertainer at the top of his game and enjoying himself. I salute LC...

My favourite...

Other highlights were the asian dub foundation who played an awesome and energetic set. I have seen these boys a few times and they never dissapoint....

Elsewhere I was most dissapointed to have missed Scott Hansen/Tycho/ISO50. A designer, musician, photographer. I did'nt get my arse in gear and read the programme in enough detail so was bloody elsewhere. May be a while before I get another chance. Check it out just in case he's in your neck of the woods...

And im still quite tired from it all....

lovebox...

..so I have been away for a while, summer is keeping me busy with all manner of fun. Went to Lovebox at the end of July in Victoria park london...awesome weather, awesome fun and some great bands, I would check out the bands below, some you will know and some you may not.

Australian band called pnau, mad but brilliant live and a nice fun site...check out wild strawberries.

Visit site.

Always a fan but not hugely I have to say groove armarda were one of the highlights of the weekend. They curate the weekend festival and put smiles on everyones faces...heres one for a summers day...

As ever the pioneer of drum and bass roni size got the rave on in the afternoon. If you hav'nt got new forms the mercury music prize winning album then shame on you..

and finally....

one of my favourite bands of recent years 'the go team!' based from Brighton they havbe made two cracking albums. Although I had to miss most of the flaming lips set I was determined to check these guys out. They were awesome so get investigating...
